Summers Favorite Watermelon Granita

Summers are here.....and every year the news lady says with all the blinking breaking news flashing on the screen "may ke mahine mein garmi ne saare record tode"(record breaking heat in the month of may). I guess the sun gods in India have decided to break the records every year.  But the good thing about May and June are the lazy summer afternoons. When you are done with your chores and have a few peaceful hours left before the little one gets up from his afternoon nap. There is nothing better that lazying around on your lounger, reading a light book with a summer cooler in your other hand.
Yes summers are here....you know it when you don't see a single living thing on the streets between 12 to 4, when an occasional breeze makes you wish for more, when you see the next door fruit seller piling up a mountain of watermelons. This beautiful fruits is a staple in my grocery list till the time they are available in the season.  Just a single bite of this versatile fruit refreshes me. I remember eating watermelon slices from my childhood with a red juicy stain from ear to ear and a stupid grin on my face.
Never ever I thought in those days that watermelon could be frozen and turned into a icy frozen delight. This beautiful Granita made with watermelon is a perfect sweet and chatpata treat for those lazy afternoons. Its one of those icy sweet delights you can eat without worrying that it would end up on your hips haha.

Made with minimum ingredients in no time.....of course if you don't think about the hours needed to freeze it.

Things you require:
1 medium watermelon
Few sprigs of mint (pudina)
2 tsp chaat masala (for and added depth of flavor)
1/2 cup sugar
3-4 tbsp of honey
1 large green chilly
1 tsp salt

Method:
Cut the watermelon is medium sized cubes and deseed them. In a blender jar pour all the above mentioned ingredients and blend till everything mixes up and turns into a smooth liquid.
Now comes the impatient part, pour the mix in a freezer tray in a medium layer,  use two trays if reacquired and freeze it for 4-5 hours.
Take it out when its almost completely frozen. Using a fork start scrapping the content and put it back in the freezer for another hour. Take it out after an hour and your watermelon granita is ready.
Scrap the frozen mass with a fork and scoop it in a bowl and enjoy the frozen delight.
